...
"Hmmm."
Looking at her appearance in the mirror, Kanae wondered if she did too much. There was a party that invited the big families as well as the former clan’s members. Kevin asked her to come along and obviously, Kanae had to dress up appropriately.
At the last banquet, she was wearing a long sleeve dress that would let her hide her weapon inside her sleeve. It was no different this time as well. The city was still not that safe as many areas were still considered as Black Street. For her own safety, it would be better to bring her sword with her.
Though, she was also proficient in hand to hand combat without needing to use a weapon.
The dress she picked this time was a red dress with simple design. The length covered her legs fully and the hem would flutter along with the wind when she walked around. As it was specifically tailored for her, the size matched her perfectly.
Knock! Knock!
"Kanae, are you ready?"
"Ah yeah."
Opening the door, Kanae saw Kevin standing in front of her. She was still staying in her house, but many members from Ryukalin Clan came to visit her from time to time. As usual, Kevin personally came to pick her up.
Upon seeing Kanae, Kevin stayed still in his place for a few seconds. Her dress perfectly highlighted her features. Even though he had told the designer to make a fitting dress for her, he didn’t expect it to be this good. She was so perfect and beautiful in front of him right now.
On the other hand, Kanae’s eyes lit up when she saw Kevin’s appearance. He always looked good no matter what he wore. The current black suit perfectly suited him. Kanae was sure that the ladies wouldn’t be able to tear their eyes away from him.
"Brat, how long do you want to stand there?" Patrick asked from the back, clearly annoyed because they took a really long time there.
"Ah, right. Let’s go."
"En."
Kanae grabbed Kevin’s hand as she looked at his face. Even though his expression was as stoic as ever, his gaze looked disturbed. She grabbed Kevin’s hand tighter as they walked to the car.
"Wow! You’re so pretty today!" Neo exclaimed when he saw Kanae.
"Thanks."
Neo grinned and was about to say something else when he noticed that Kevin was glaring at him. Eh, it seemed that his boss didn’t want him to compliment Kanae more than that. He tactfully shut his mouth before Kevin could order him to spar with Mike again.
As Kanae entered the backseat along with Kevin, she looked around. "Is Mike not coming with us?"
"No. He has been tasked to take care of some thugs who are very cocky. He’ll only return back at a later time."
"Are you still very busy?"
"Don’t worry too much. You’re also helping me out," Kevin replied with a smile.
Kanae looked at Kevin suspiciously. So far, she had assisted Kevin with paperwork of his various companies. Seeing them all, she even wondered whether he was a businessman or a clan head. There were so many things related to businesses that he had to take care.
It seemed that Kalin Family didn’t rely only on the taxes that they got from the people but also from developing their own businesses.
The car reached the designated hotel and the three of them alighted. Neo would need to park the car first before he could enter the hotel and participate in the party. Of course, his task was mainly to protect Kevin from afar.
"The purpose of the party today is to introduce you to some businessmen from other cities. They can help develop this city," Kevin said.
Kanae nodded. "I have already memorized their names."
Listening to their conversation, Patrick arched his eyebrows. What was so fun with meeting those fake businessmen? In the end, they were all just talking about money and how to earn more and more money.
Rather than caring about that, Patrick wished to meet with some other clan members’ representatives. Who knew if there would be someone whom he could coax to have a spar with him. His hand was already itching to beat up someone again after a long time doing paperwork.
Entering the hall, Kanae scanned the room. This was not the first time she attended a party, so she had gotten used to behaving appropriately as a mature woman. Even though she was still fairly young, her name had started to spread as Ryukalin Clan Vice Head.
There was actually no such title, but Kevin always introduced her as such. After all, she helped him a lot in the clan, so aside from being his fiancée, she also became the clan’s vice head.
"Good afternoon."
Some people came to greet them. Maintaining a polite smile, Kanae repliedand led the conversation with them. When it came to talking about businesses, Kevin usually let Kanae be the one to lead. After all, she was better than him. But when it was about the clans and also politics, Kevin would take the lead and talk more with them.
Kanae sighed internally as she kept putting on a polite smile. This kind of gathering was very boring for her. She disliked the façade that they had to put up when they met with other people. However, this gathering was also important to maintain and make new connections.
After all, businesses would not grow if she only focused in this city and didn’t explore the possibilities of expanding them outside the city.
"Fiuh, I think we have already greeted everyone?"
"There’s still Jason and Laura," Kevin replied while pointing to the side. By now, the two of them were surrounded by a lot of people who wanted to make connections with them and improve their businesses in this city.
Kanae shook her head. "It’s not the time yet. Besides, our businesses don’t clash with each other so far."
Hearing Kanae’s answer, Kevin stayed quiet. How could he not know that the two of them purposely chose different aspects in order to not intersect each other. This way, they make sure that Kalin, Nali, and Wells Family would be powerful in this city covering different sectors.
Speaking of which...
"Doha Family has been growing too lately, right?"
Kevin nodded his head. "It’s no longer as powerful as before because the two of them don’t have much experience in managing companies. Besides, there are more and more investors coming here to build new companies."
"It means that the city is growing."
Checking his watch, Kevin pointed to the table. "Do you want to have some snacks?"
"Of course!"
